A Message from WERNER BERGER

Fellow golfing friends and culinary golfing colleagues,

It seems like only yesterday when almost all of us were washed out on the beautiful Malarayat Golf Course in Lipa City. But in the meantime, all of us have grown two years older and wiser.

It is overwhelming to see the interest of international participants in the 6th SEAC Golf Tournament and in the celebration of the SEAC’s first decade. We had so many registrations from outside the Philippines that we had to set limits to the number of participants per country! Looking at the list now, it seems that at least six participating countries have the caliber to vie for the overall championship trophy, our “pièce de résistance”. Definitely, it will be very hard to fight the chef-golfers of Thailand, who, as a very organized group, have diligently practiced almost every Sunday for several weeks. We take our hats off to such an enthusiastic team!

This year, we have chosen two new exciting golf courses for you from among my favorites in the south of Manila. On the first day we shall play at the Splendido Taal Residential Estate Golf and Country Club. Located near Tagaytay City, on the way to Batangas, the Splendido course is a rather tricky one, courtesy of designer Greg Norman. You can expect more than 150 very inviting sand bunkers and other obstacles fit for a tournament! On our second day we shall play at the Arnold Palmer Course of The Orchard Golf and Country Club which was the venue of the 1995 Johnny Walker Classic. The well-designed legacy stands in the middle of what used to be a mango farm of 2,500 well-manicured fruit bearing trees. In fact, if you play during the mango season here, you’ll get to have your fresh mango fruit platter right off the trees! The Orchard also a wide variety of sports facilities for bowling, swimming, basketball, and tennis; and also includes a gym, and even a movie house for non-playing visitors!

Of course, we shall do our very best to satisfy your appetite—from the very early breakfasts to the well-planned luncheons and dinners. Wine, as expected, will be overflowing, thanks again to our very generous wine suppliers. Our slogan still stands: Nobody is allowed to lose weight! And lastly, we promise entertainment that is “unique and magnifique” all throughout the three-day affair.

I hope that this year, no swimming trunks would be needed and that the 6th SEAC Golf Tournament would once again be a success so we could see each other again in 2010.

In the meantime, enjoy your stay. And happy golfing!

WERNER BERGER, Overall Chairman
