He’s a successful entrepreneur, author, photographer, sports enthusiast, and environmentalist. But first and foremost, Heinz von Holzen (hvhfood@indosat.net .id) is a chef with a mission: to tell the world that the island paradise of Bali has more than just rice fields and tourist attractions but also a cuisine which ranks among other classic Asian cuisines.
 

What else is there to learn about this master-of-all-trades?

He went from engines to kitchens. Prior to becoming a chef, Heinz was an engine designer.

He’s an artist even outside the kitchen. A celebrated author-photographer, among his books are The Food of Bali: Authentic Recipes from the Island of the Gods, The Food of Indonesia: Authentic Recipes from the Spice Islands, Bali Unveiled: The Secrets of Balinese Cuisine, Authentic Recipes from Indonesia.

He cooks, bikes, and hikes. And he’s currently at work on a book about the volcanoes of Indonesia. He climbs a 3000-m volcano at least once a month, and takes his mountain bike on 50-km trips almost daily.
