René Lalique’s artistic career began when he was apprenticed to a jeweler at the age of sixteen. He then spent two years studying in London, before opening his own jewelry workshop in 1886.After two years of painstaking efforts, René Lalique introduced a revolutionary style of jewelry, rejecting the use of brilliant diamonds and traditional design.Instead, he began to experiment with enamel work of various kinds, unusual colored stones such as opals, and less valuable materials such as glass and horn. |
